After losing in the first round of the M15 Antalya event on the ITF World Tennis Tour, the lowest level of men’s professional tennis, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, a youngster from Argentina, would have given up on the 2021 season.

The good news is that a new member of the Cerundolo family participated in a Grand Slam tournament. In the last round of qualification, Francisco, the older brother of Juan Manuel, faced a defeat at the hands of Alessandro Gianessi.

Currently, Francisco holds a world ranking of 117, which is 30 positions higher than Juan Manuel’s ranking. Despite this, a stroke of luck granted him a second chance when he received a lucky loser entry into the main draw, marking his Grand Slam debut.

Are the Cerundolo related?

Indeed, the Cerundolo brothers are related. Juan Cerundolo is Francisco’s younger brother and is also a professional tennis player. In 2021, they joined the ranks of the Zverev siblings, Alexander and Mischa, as the first sets of siblings to reach back-to-back ATP Tour finals. Notably, Alexander Zverev clinched the title in Rome, while Mischa Zverev made it to the final in Geneva back in 2017.
