The nation of Ghana celebrated Founders’ Day yesterday. The day is a legal holiday to honor all individuals who participated to the independence movement. Nonetheless, not everyone has accepted this new holiday.
Many have accused President Akufo-Addo of attempting to establish a name for his father by recognizing the efforts of all former leaders to achieve independence. Critics have asserted that Kwame Nkrumah is the only one who led and won the independence movement. Thus, they have proposed that the day be designated Founder’s Day. Yesterday, President Akufo-Addo commemorated the occasion by hosting a luncheon for senior persons. President Obama praised The Aborigines Rights Protection Society and the United Gold Coast Convention. Surprisingly, no mention was made of the Convention Peoples Party.
Interestingly, President Akufo-Addo was caught dancing with Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to some vintage Ghanaian melodies during the dance session. Many were aware that their relationship had improved, though not to the point of dancing. This was addressed by Johnnie Hughes on Johnnies Bite today, August 5, 2022. Johnnie questioned the necessity of a presidential get-together at a time when the nation is bleeding.
According to Johnnie, Ghanaians should not be startled to see the former first lady and president dancing to old songs. He said that the future is pregnant with happiness and that everything is possible. Johnnie admonished the youth and social media troops who constantly trash politicians to desist. He admonished them to cease because no one can predict the future and foes may unexpectedly become allies.
