The shocking news was delivered the same week that Messina had won at Craon on Hunion Delabrairie the previous Monday.
And he tragically passed away just three weeks after experiencing his first win on the racetrack.
In January of last year, Messina, an Athee native who completed 51 rides overall, made his racing debut on Fairy Of Mild.
Jacob Pritchard Webb, a former British jockey, was one of those honouring Messina.
On Twitter, he commented next to a picture of Messina, writing, “This young guy had it all there as uncooked potential.

Two more persons, including Benjamin Messina, reportedly perished in a horrific accident that occurred early on June 19, 2022, in the town of Marigne-Peuton, which is located between Rennes and Le Mans.
A man and a woman, both 31 years old, and a child, all 26 years old, has been named as the three victims who perished in the sad vehicle accident.
