Mandel Bruce Patinkin, an American actor and singer, is best recognized for his work in musical theatre, television, and film. He was born on November 30, 1952. Mandy Patinkin is a renowned Broadway performer who has been nominated for seven Drama Desk Awards, and three Tony Awards, and won for his leading role in Evita (1980). Seven Primetime Emmy nominations have been made for Mandy Patinkin’s television work (winning one). Mandy Patinkin has also received a Screen Actors Guild Award and has been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards.

Lester Don Patinkin was born on November 30, 1952, to a homemaker named Doris Lee “Doralee” (née Sinton) and Lester Don Patinkin, who oversaw the People’s Iron & Metal Company and the Scrap Corporation of America, two big metal mills in the Chicago area.

His mother authored The Jewish Family Cookbook by Grandma Doralee Patinkin. In addition to Sheldon Patinkin, who founded The Second City and teaches in the theatre department at Columbia College Chicago, Bonnie Miller Rubin, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, Laura Patinkin, an actress based in New York, and Louis Rosen, a composer based in New York, are all related to Patinkin.

In 1975, Patinkin made his acting debut alongside Meryl Streep in the comedy Trelawny of the ‘Wells’ at The Public Theatre’s Shakespeare Festival. In the years that followed, Mandy Patinkin developed the iconic parts of Che in the Broadway debut of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita in 1979 and Georges Seurat in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.
