Australian television host Jane Doyle, born on February 9th, 1958, is currently retired. Her most recognizable role was as the host of Seven News in Adelaide from 1989 until 2022. More than 30 years ago, she left her secure and well-paying teacher position in favour of a newspaper cadetship in a small provincial town in far-north Queensland, which launched her media career. There was definitely room for improvement!
After Ian was appointed an ABC Radio rural officer in 1981, Jane and her husband moved to Port Pirie. Jane persuaded ABC Radio to recruit her as an announcer on a temporary basis and soon after received an offer for a part-time position from The Recorder newspaper. Thus was born her love of electronic media.
In 2005, Jane started working as a breakfast newsreader at radio station 1395 Fiveaa with veteran announcers Keith Conlon, Tony Pilkington, John Kenneally, Jon Blake, and Chris McDermott. This show held the title of best breakfast program in South Australia for eight years.
Jane is the patron of the South Australian Women’s Industry Network, co-patron of the Adelaide Voices, and the Mental Illness Fellowship of South Australia in addition to hosting and speaking at several professional and philanthropic events.
