Around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Cathy Peters was walking on Nichols Street when she was struck by a car, flung upon its hood, carried for a short distance, and then dropped off.
Police later recognized the motorist as Karen Haught, 52, and she sped off.
Peters was taken to the hospital right away, where she spent the night recovering from fractured legs and a neck injury.
WBZ-TV was informed by her spouse that she would have surgery on her legs on Thursday.

The name of Karen Haught’s husband is unknown. However, on Wednesday, police released security photos of the automobile, which led to multiple tips.
A 2014 Hyundai Elantra with “damage consistent with a crash involving a pedestrian,” they claimed, was where one led them.
They detained Haught at her Billerica home a little while later.
She was charged on Thursday in Woburn District Court with a number of offences, including fleeing the scene of an accident and driving while her license was suspended.
Haught is a regular traffic offender, the judge stated during the arraignment. $5,000 has been imposed as Haught’s conditional release bail.
