Of the relative multitude of exemplary characters he has played and every one of the famous movies in which he is a section, Luis Guzmán says he’s perceived for the most part for a job he won’t ever depict. During a new meeting on The Rich Eisen Show, the entertainer, 66, made sense of that for quite a long time, he has been mistaken for the late Rick Aviles, who played Willie Lopez in the film Phantom.
“Right up ’til now, you and I could be strolling through an air terminal, a shopping center — today — and somebody could go, ‘For what reason did you kill Patrick Swayze? What was it like working with Whoopi [Goldberg]?’ Assuming that I had a nickel since that started — I would presumably possess this studio, an island and two or three confidential planes. No doubt about it.”
In the 1990 heartfelt dream movie coordinated by Jerry Zucker, Swayze’s Sam Wheat is killed by Aviles’ Lopez.
Sam’s apparition embarks to save his better half, played by Demi Moore. Aviles died in 1995 at 42 years old.
Guzmán, who at present stars in the Netflix series Wednesday, in view of The Addams Family, told Eisen he was never offered the Phantom job.
What’s more, for some time, he amended fans who moved toward him — yet after one explicit experience, he surrendered.
“I was in Detroit one time, evolving planes, and a 90-year-old woman comes dependent upon me: ‘Gracious, my god. I cherished you in Phantom.’ I felt so awful, and I made sense of, ‘No, no.
That was another person.’ And afterward she goes, ‘So what could I have seen you in?’ And I go, ‘Did you at any point see The Count of Monte Cristo?’ And she says, ‘I love that film.
That was a particularly extraordinary film!’ And I said, ‘Indeed, I was Jacopo.’ And afterward she goes, ‘No, you wasn’t in that!’ ”
Nowadays, Guzmán said he cheerfully invites the praise and Swayze reprimanding, noticing, “From that second on, I said, ‘I’m continuously going to be the person in Phantom.’ “
