Nick Holonyak Jr. is known to be an engineer and an educationist who is well renowned for his invention of a light-emitting diode that was known to have displayed emissions of red light instead of infrared light when Nick was working at General Electric’s research laboratory at the time. Nick was born on November 3, 1928, in Zeigler, Illinois in the United States. Nick Holonyak was said to have passed away recently on September 18, 2022, and news of Nick’s passing has made waves.

Nick Holonyak was known to have attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later on became the Chair Emeritus in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics. It will interest you to know that Nic’s inventions were not only limited to his first unintended invention of the red light but, had other inventions which included the red light semiconductor laser which mostly is referred to as the laser diode.
