“Step On,” “Kinky Afro,” and “Stinkin’ Thinkin'” were among Happy Mondays’ early 1990s hits in their home United Kingdom as well as on the dance music and college radio charts in the United States.
Ryder stayed with Happy Mondays until 2001, rejoining the group for a round of performances in 2012.
Ryder started the band Big Arm and worked as a DJ during the time he spent away from Happy Mondays.
In the 2002 film “24 Hour Party People,” Ryder was played by Paul Popplewell, and the story revolved around fictionalized versions of bands like Happy Mondays.
