Chennai, Sep 14 (IANS) The Sri Lankan Tamil exiles, who have been residing in recovery camps in Dindigul for the beyond 30 years, can now reside in substantial houses.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday introduced the Sri Lankan Tamil’s restoration camp through video conferencing from Chennai.

The restoration camp at Dindigul for Tamil exiles is spread across seven sections of land of land and has 321 houses. These houses have been developed at an expense of Rs 17.84 crore.

As indicated by Dindigul region organization, each house has a 300 sq ft region with a front room, a room, a kitchen, and a latrine. Each house cost Rs 4.95 lakh. The establishment stone for the venture was laid in December 2021 and finished in nine months.

The restoration camp for Tamil exiles at Dindigul likewise has an above water tank with a limit of 60,000 liters.

As of now, 70 families who are residing in the Dindigul camp will be moved to the new substantial houses. Detainees of camps in Gopalpatti, Adiyanthu, and Thottanuthu will be moved to the Dindigul recovery camp.

Eminently, it was the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi who had designated covered houses for Tamil exiles from Sri Lanka at Adiyanthu. The Sri Lankan Tamil evacuees have arrived at the state in 1990 after they escaped from the island country during the nationwide conflict in that country.

Tamil Nadu serve for collaboration, I. Periyasamy, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, R. Sakkarapani and Minister for Minorities Welfare and Non – Resident Tamils government assistance, Gingee S. Masthan gave over the keys of the houses to the benefeciaries.
