Hennessey began his career as a Manchester City trainee and was fired in 2003. Later, he joined the junior academy of Wolverhampton Wanderers. After moving up the ranks, he signed his first professional contract in April 2005. In order to play for the first team, Hennessey agreed to a one-month loan with League Two club Stockport County in January 2007. In his first game, he kept Boston United’s scoreless.
He began playing for the Hennessey Senior Team in January 2007 after agreeing to a one-month loan with League Two team Stockport County. After making his debut against Boston United, his loan was extended by another month and he went on to keep a clean sheet in five straight games.
He returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2007 after regular goalkeeper Matt Murray was hurt. He also took part in Crystal Palace and Burnley. He joined Nottingham Forest on July 15, 2022, after Burnley was relegated. He will represent Wales at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
