Bernard Kalb, an American journalist, moderator, media critic, educator, and author, was born on February 4, 1922. Kalb was born in New York City. He earned a B.S.S. from City College of New York before enrolling in Harvard University’s M.A. program.

Over the course of more than three decades, Kalb covered worldwide news for The New York Times, NBC News, and CBS News. He had headquarters in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Paris, and Saigon for around half of that time.

Kalb received a fellowship from the Council on Foreign Relations near the conclusion of his time at the Times, which is given annually to a foreign reporter. As a result, he took a year off from his job at the paper.

Kalb was appointed the US State Department’s spokeswoman and assistant secretary of state for public affairs in 1984. The State Department had never before chosen a reporter as its spokesperson. Kalb travelled as a lecturer and moderator during his final year. From 1993 until 1998, he served as the show’s first host and a panellist on the weekly CNN program Reliable Sources.

On January 2, 2023, Kalb passed out at his North Bethesda, Maryland, home. Six days later, on January 8, he passed away from his wounds. He was a century old.
