Xena, a New Zealand-born actress who rose to fame for her role as the titular character in the long-running television series Xena: Warrior Princess, was born on March 28, 1968, in Mount Albert, New Zealand (1995–2001).

When Xena was younger, she participated in school productions, and later, while she was in college, she studied opera singing. Later on, she decided not to continue her education and instead spent some time backpacking through Europe and Australia, where she held jobs such as gold miner and grape picker.

The breakthrough for Xena came in 1994 when she made a cameo appearance on the popular television show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Her performance as the female warrior Xena led to the creation of a spin-off television series in 1995 called Xena: Warrior Princess. Lawless, who played the role of the statuesque warrior, was able to reinvent television’s conception of the female action hero by combining toughness with femininity.
