Peter Gregory Obi, a politician and businessman from Nigeria born on July 19, 1961, held the office of governor of Anambra State twice from 2006 and 2014.

He was nominated by the Labour Party in May 2022 to be Nigeria’s president in the 2023 election.

In 1984, Obi, who was born in Onitsha in 1961, earned his degree from the University of Nigeria. Then he started working in banking and business, eventually ascending to hold a number of executive roles at institutions with significant levels of responsibility.

Prior to resigning from his post to pursue a career in politics, Obi was the chairman of Fidelity Bank during the early 2000s.

As a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Obi stood for governor in 2003, however, the All Progressives Grand Alliance illegally announced the victory over Obi.

Obi took power in March 2006 after winning the election following three years of legal disputes.

He was then impeached that November, but it was later overturned, and he was reinstated to his position in February 2007.

Once more, Obi was ousted when a new election was held in April 2007, but the judiciary again stepped in and decided that he should be permitted to serve out his entire four-year term.
