Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano is a former gangster from the United States who rose to become the Gambino criminal family’s underboss. He was a key player in the prosecution of John Gotti, the head of the crime family, by consenting to testify as a government witness against him and other mobsters in exchange for his confession to his role in 19 homicides.

Sammy struggled in school, had dyslexia, and was tormented. Sammy Was enlisted in the US army in 1964 and stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He gained much of his experience as a mass hall cook and eventually reached the rank of corporal before receiving an honorable discharge after two years.

Sammy subsequently ended up working for the Gambino Family and became a close friend of John Gotti after later getting involved in organized crime.

However, Sammy turned against the Mafia in 1991 and cooperated with the authorities as an informant after calling the organization a “curse.”

Sammy provided sufficient proof and eventually testified, resulting in the life sentences for Frank Locascio and Gotti.

In addition, he admitted to 19 murders, including the slayings of his brother-in-law and best friend Louis Milito.

Sammy was caught again in 2000 for his ecstasy drug operation that transported drugs from Arizona to New York in the 1990s. He had previously received a five-year sentence that had been drastically reduced.

 

Where is Sammy the Bull now?

Sammy the Bull served 20 years in prison for his involvement in the drug network before being freed in September 2017.

He launched “Our Thing,” a podcast and YouTube channel, in December 2020.
