The narrative of the film garnered primarily bad reviews from critics, however the sound effects received mostly excellent reviews.
According to Felix Vasques Jr. of CinemaCrazed, “The Boy Who Cried Werewolf” is a “surprisingly good family horror comedy that isn’t as soapy or girly as I initially anticipated.”
There is a nice story, if weak and derivative, and some wicked stunning effects concealed within the pandering to preteens clamoring for Justice. Variety’s Brian Lowry panned the film as cheap and uninteresting, finding little to recommend it.
