The minimal standards set by Super 8 hotels include a free wireless Internet connection and a continental breakfast. Beginning in 2004, anyone who purchased a “See You Along The Way” coffee mug was eligible for free coffee at any of the Super 8 hotels, regardless of whether they had stayed the night before.

The first franchise was bought and set up in Gillette, Wyoming, in 1976. Super 8 had expanded by 1978 to encompass states besides the Midwest, like New York and Washington.

Construction on the 100th Super 8 location started in 1981 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the city where Super 8 was first established. In 1993, Super 8 opened its 1,000th location in Mount Vernon, Ohio. More than 2,000 Super 8 Motels may be found all over the world in 2001.
